The route starts and finishes in rolling Nags Head Woods. It passes through back roads and neighborhoods and passes the Wright Brother's Memorial. Sections of bike path are utilized along the way as well as the popular Bay Drive soundside bicycle route. Keep an eye out for the "original Wright Memorial" obelisk on Moore Shore Drive. This pre-dates the National Monument by decades and was built with community donations.
The route eventually reaches more singletrack trail in Kitty Hawk Woods. The route turns right and dumps you out in a cul-de-sac which has been abandoned in the woods. Watch out for the cable gate! Follow the covered bridge road (to the left) back to the Woods Road bike path and then on to WalMart. Behind WalMart the shady road rolls and eventually offers the opportunity for an optional 1-mile technical singletrack. Pedal out of the woods and get a quick glimpse of the ocean. Then a rolling narrow lane along the golf course takes you to more back road neighborhoods (after cutting through a parking lot.)
Eventually, you will return to the soundside bike path you left earlier and the route becomes a reverse of the same way you came out.
